India has reached 210 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity — a landmark figure that marks the country's transformation from a solar importer to a global manufacturing force.

India's solar manufacturing sector has grown exponentially — driven by PLI incentives and BIS quality mandates.

How India Got Here

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar modules, combined with MNRE's mandatory BIS quality certification, has driven a wave of domestic manufacturing investment. Companies like Waaree, Adani Solar, Premier Energies and Vikram Solar have expanded capacity aggressively.

Why It Matters for Buyers

Domestically manufactured modules are now price-competitive with Chinese imports for many project sizes — and carry BIS certification that is mandatory for government schemes including PM Surya Ghar. Buyers can now access quality Indian-made panels without the premium they once commanded.

Impact on Inverter Demand

More solar installations mean more inverter demand. As module costs fall, the inverter becomes a larger proportion of total system cost — increasing customer scrutiny of inverter quality, warranty and brand reputation.
